Yes, it's sunny and toasty on the Mendonoma Coast today with not much wind. Sounds like a good day to head for the beach. Ruth Alexander was at Moat Creek on a sparkling day recently and photographed this Western Gull looking out at the Pacific Ocean.

Western Gulls are the only gull that nests on our coast. And they are year round residents.

There is a trail from Moat Creek to Bowling Ball Beach. You can find out more about it at the Mendocino Land Trust's site at this link: https://www.mendocinolandtrust.org/trails/southern-coastal-trails/moat-creek-to-schooner-gulch-trail/

Thanks to Ruth for allowing me to share her photo with you here.

Rick and I have an abelia bush with lovely small flowers. Butterflies and Bees absolutely love it. I recently photographed one of the many Painted Lady Butterflies feeding on it.

Beautiful warm weather on the coast today. Perfect for butterflies!

It's been downright hot if you get a little ways away from the bluffs and beaches, though today it cooled off a bit. Butterflies have been flitting through, delighting our senses. Recently Mary Hunter photographed a Pale Swallowtail Butterfly.

This beautiful butterfly was feeding - nectaring - on Mary's lavender blossoms. Pretty as a picture!

A close relative is a Western Tiger Swallowtail, with similar markings. This butterfly is feeding on a native wildflower, Leopard Lily, and was taken by Peter Baye.

Yesterday we jumped into summer and the warm weather continues today. Of course there are pockets of fog in the usual places - hello, Point Arena! - but the fog will hopefully burn off for everyone.

There were a lot of happy faces as sun shone and David Wayne Floyd photographed the beach action at Anchor Bay Beach yesterday.

This morning with the favorable low tides, abalone divers were hitting the water. A crab boat is working the water south of Fish Rocks this afternoon. Today there is no wind!

Commercial fishermen are awaiting the opening of the Salmon season, which is May 1st south of Point Arena, I believe. Life on the Mendonoma Coast is like a dream, a dream from which you don't want to wake up.
