Peggy Berryhill noticed this beat-up Pale Swallowtail. Something took a couple of bites out of its wings, but it lived to feed on these sweet flowers.

And Jackie Baas found a Painted Lady, also a little worse for wear.

If these butterflies could talk, what a tale they might tell us!

Thanks to Peggy and Jackie for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

Yesterday, Monday, it was very warm, hitting 90 degrees at Rick's and my place in Anchor Bay. Overnight the blessed fog rolled in and this morning it was 52 degrees. That's weather whip-lash!

Kathy Grace had this Pale Swallowtail land on a blooming dahlia, a beautiful sight to behold.

And Paul Brewer photographed a Painted Lady feeding on a flower in his Gualala garden.

I love butterflies and I will stop what I'm doing to watch them as they travel from flower to flower.

It's a beach day on the Mendonoma Coast! The fog pulled back and if you get a little bit away from the coastline, it's hot! There are beautiful clouds in the sky today, which might bring us a spectacular sunset. Yes, sunset season looks to be here.

Misty Miller photographed a Red Admiral Butterfly in her garden recently.

After today's thunderstorms, we have three+ days of warm weather. We could see many more butterflies this weekend. We are looking for Painted Ladies, butterflies in the millions this year migrating north. Here's what they look like.

Ceanothus, wild lilac, has begun blooming this week, so I won't be surprised to receive photos of the distinctive Ceanothus Moth. Harm Wilkinson took the photo of the big moth. Bob Rutemoeller took the photo of Ceanothus in bloom.

Thanks to Misty, Harm and Bob for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

Rick and I have an abelia bush with lovely small flowers. Butterflies and Bees absolutely love it. I recently photographed one of the many Painted Lady Butterflies feeding on it.

Beautiful warm weather on the coast today. Perfect for butterflies!

Peter Baye found this native wildflower on a stretch of beach near Alder Creek. A Painted Lady butterfly was nectaring on it. It's Pink Sand Verbena, and it is rare. Yes, it is growing in the sand.

Here is a close-up of the flower. It's lovely, isn't it?
