Kate Bloch noticed this Great Egret in the Russian River on a misty day.

Here's what Kate wrote, "In the darkening afternoon, as the intermittent rain and fog blocked much of the light, what looked like an ivory statue appeared in the shallows of the Russian River near Jenner.  When I exited the car, I could see it was a lovely Great Egret."

Great Egrets are year round residents of the Mendonoma Coast!

Kate seems to have described today's weather. It started out foggy but a light misty rain is beginning to fall. More rain to come tomorrow, Sunday. Bring it, Mother Nature!

Richard Denton noticed the beach at the mouth of the Russian River was covered in hundreds, perhaps thousands, of gulls. The two dozen or so Harbor Seals look to be surrounded!

We had quite a bit of rain from the storm to the north. Then the fog settled in to spend the rest of the day on the Mendonoma Coast. Sunny and warmer is the forecast.

Peggy Berryhill told me this young Brown Pelican recently posed for her.

I love these prehistoric-looking birds. We are privileged to watch their migrations every year. Young Brown Pelicans, with brown heads and white tummies, are still flying northward. Peggy saw them feeding in the mudflats of the Russian River, along with American White Pelicans and Great Egrets.

Larain Matheson stopped on a trip down the coast to photograph this lovely sight through her windshield. You can see the Russian River entering the Pacific Ocean. And the headlands are draped in fog.

Highway One, with it's curves and cliffs, can be scary for some to drive. Many of us who live on the Mendonoma coast just resolve to take our time and enjoy the beautiful vistas.

This afternoon we are getting a little rain. As it hasn't rained in February before today, we are grateful for any wet stuff Mother Nature gives.

Thanks to Larain for allowing me to share her photo with you here.

Richard Kuehn recently photographed the Bald Eagle pair that has been seen by the Russian River in Jenner with the Pacific Ocean behind them.

Perhaps these two majestic eagles will join me in wishing you a Happy New Year!
