Gail Jackson photographed a yellow-faced bumblebee flying out of a California poppy blossom. Yellow pollen is coating the face and legs of this pollinator, nearly matching the patch of bright yellow hair on her head. If you look closely, you can see several grains of pollen drifting down from the bee. And she sports an orange pollen basket, called a corbicula, on her hind legs.

It's toasty warm here today. The smoke from the fire at Salt Point State Park/Timber Cove is south of us so it's a beautiful blue-sky breezy warm day here!

Bishop Pines trees are loaded with pollen. Rick touched one gently while we were hiking at Gualala Point Regional Park and look what happened! Can you see the puff of yellow pollen? Our golden retriever, Huckleberry, was watching it too. This pollen affects a lot of people, setting off their allergies. We have a storm coming in Tuesday so that will help knock some of the pollen down...I hope.

While on the bluff trail, we stopped to look for Gray Whales. We saw someone had made a driftwood heart.
