Sara Bogard took this photo of an Anna's Hummingbird looking directly at her. Just what is this little hummer thinking?

Perry Hoffman had a Common Raven take a good at him and his camera!

And lastly Ron Bolander found this male American Kestrel giving him the eye.

These photos cry out for a caption! Feel free to chime in.

Thanks to Sara, Perry and Ron for allowing me to share their photos with  you here.

Today is sunny, windy and cool. Yesterday a quick but potent storm moved in and dumped a half inch at Rick's and my place in Anchor Bay. 19.98 inches season to date!

I had to laugh at Jon Shiu's photo. It looks like the Great Blue Heron is chastising the Raven.

Common Ravens and GBH's are year round residents of the Mendonoma Coast.

Thanks to Jon for allowing me to share his photo with you here.

There was .50 inches in my rain gauge from last night, 49.50 season to date. It's a wait-five-minutes type of day - sunshine, hail, sunshine, rain - and it's only 41 degrees early this afternoon.

Craig Tooley and Rita Peck visited a local beach. Craig wrote, “We were walking along the beach and discovered this Crab, trying to escape from the big waves, I guess.”

Then a bad boy or girl appeared, a Common Raven. The Raven spotted the Crab and nabbed the Crab for its dinner.

Craig wrote further, “I guess this Raven heard that crab was the thing to have as part of a New Year's celebration.”

I was curious as to what kind of crab Craig had photographed so I send his photos to Bob Van Syoc. Bob wrote, “The crab looks like Cancer antennarius, a Rock Crab that lives in rocky (duh) intertidal reefs.”

ah, the food chain in action. It's not always easy to watch!

A smaller storm is hitting the Mendonoma Coast this afternoon. When it is done, the forecast is for sunny and warmer weather. We need it to dry out!

Perry Hoffman slowly approached the resting Harbor Seals, who were lounging on the sandbar on a sunny day. Don't they look happy and contented?

A Common Raven appeared, perhaps looking for remnants of the Harbor Seals' meal. The Harbor Seals didn't seem to mind.

Lastly, Perry saw a beautiful rainbow on New Year's Eve.

Now that's a nice sighting for the last day of the year.

A big storm is hitting the Mendonoma Coast now. With the first wave, in the wee hours of Wednesday, we received 0.75 inches. Lots more coming down now. Power it out for many of us. I am fortunate to have a backup generator, which is how I can send this to you today. Batten down the hatches!

Allen Vinson noticed this Common Raven with something in its beak. It turned out to be a bright, red apple. I wonder where this Raven found this apple, which looks to be in perfect condition.

The Raven took the apple to a nearby bluff where he/she ate some of the fruit. Then the bird flew to where its fledgling waited, and proceeded to feed the chick some of the apple.

It's always good to eat fruit and veggies! Allen also took this photo of the beautiful bird in flight.

Thanks to Allen for allowing me to share his photos with you here.

Clouds are pouring in, and the first rain showers have arrived on the Mendonoma Coast around 3:30 this afternoon. Thank you, Mother Nature, for the blessed rain!
