Esther Shain recently photographed two butterflies in her garden. First is a Pale Swallowtail.

And a California Sister.

I love butterflies. We see many different kinds here on the Mendonoma coast.

Thanks to Esther for allowing me to share her photos with you here.

It really warmed up today, warm and breezy.

African animals in Point Arena? You bet! Here's what Judy Mello of the B Bryan Preserve says about their mission: "We are a private preserve actively committed to the breeding and preservation of African hoof Stock. Our various species of zebra, giraffe, and antelope range from critically endangered to endangered, and range in large, open fields on our property in Point Arena, California."

Here is Willie, as cute as he can be. Willie is a newborn Hartmann's Mountain Zebra, photo take by Judy.

Harm Wilkinson was driving by the preserve when he saw this scene - two newborn Sable Antelopes among the adults.

One of the young ones is partially obscured in Harm’s photo. I queried Judy Mello and she wrote, “Those are two girls, Liz and Eva. Also, now Carl has joined them.”

The Preserve has regular visiting hours, and several overnight accomodations. You can learn more at their website: https://www.bbryanpreserve.com/

Thanks to Judy and Harm for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

Paul Brewer was the lucky photographer who witnessed the event. Paul wrote, "This photo of the baby alone shows it putting its foot out of the nest hole. It flew less than one minute later. It was wonderful to observe, but no warning except the foot out of the hole, which I did not see until processing the photos.”

Earlier the parents were seen feeding their offspring. In Paul's photo the father Acorn Woodpecker is feeding his chick, while the mother looks on.

Rick and I get to watch Acorn Woodpeckers who come to a feeder we have. They are great fun to observe.

Thanks to Paul for allowing me to share his photos with you here. Paul has a showing at the Dolphin Gallery in Gualala. The opening is Friday, July 6th at 5 pm. His nature photos will be there in the weeks ahead.

This year the city of Point Arena hosted their fireworks show last Saturday night. Fortunately the skies were clear. Paul Kozal was on the bluffs photographing the event.

Happy 4th of July!

Thanks to Paul for allowing me to share his photos with you here. To see much more of Paul's nature photography, here is his website: http://www.paulkozal.com/

You can only see the caves at Cooks Beach, one at each end of the pocket beach, at a very low tide. Cece Case recently was able to photograph one.

Several years ago Peggy Berryhill photographed the same cave.

It certainly is beautiful! Cooks Beach has become a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike. To learn more about it, here is the link to the Redwood Coast Land Conservancy: http://www.rc-lc.org/Cooks-Beach.html
