California Quail have their chicks later than many other birds. The first little puffballs have arrived. David Yager recently photographed the striking male.

The male often perches on higher ground to watch over his mate and chicks.

Jeanine Aguerre caught a cute photo of a Black-tailed Jackrabbit and a CA Quail close to each other. The male Quail does not look intimidated by the large hare!

I haven't received any photos yet of Quail chicks. When I do, I will share them here.

Thanks to David and Jeanine for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

Sunny, warm, no wind...the Mendonoma Coast is simply perfect today.

Leopard Lilies, Lilium pardalinum, have just begun to bloom. Mary Sue Ittner photographed this group of beauties.

These native wildflowers are endemic to California and they are treat to see. Promise me you won't pick them!

Thanks to Mary Sue for allowing me to share her photo with you here.

Beautiful sunny day here today!

A Black Bear came down to Shell Beach recently. Michael Kreyling photographed the bear's tracks in the sand, alongside a couple of human tracks.

Several other people have seen bear scat on the west side of Highway One. Yes, bears do wander wherever they might find food, crossing the highway to do so.

Thanks to Michael for allowing me to share his photo with you here.

The Peregrine Falcon nest that Michael Beattie observes has three growing chicks in it. Here's a look at the chicks, taken earlier this month. You can see they are getting dark feathers now.

Here one of the parents has delivered dinner and is flying off for more.

For comparison, here is what they looked like in late May. Quite a difference!

Thanks to Michael for allowing me to share his photos with you here.

The Mendonoma coast has so many micro climates. At the ocean today, it's foggy. Up on the ridge, it's sunny. Take your pick!

Local streams and rivers were beneficiaries of the late May rains. Ruth Alexander photographed the beautiful cascades along Salal Creek, a public access trail on The Sea Ranch.

I did a post a couple of years ago on how to find the Salal Trail. Here is a link to that post: http://www.mendonomasightings.com/tag/salal-trail/

You will learn the trail actually starts at Gualala Point Regional Park.

Thanks to Ruth for allowing me to share her photo with you here.
