Jackie Sones photographed this beautiful Sea Anemone. She wrote, "Here's a Moonglow Sea Anemone, Anthopleura artemisia from July 17. I'm slowing working on a collection of photographs showing the amazing color variations in this species."

Just beautiful! Jackie has a wonderful blog where she shares her sightings, usually from the Bodega Bay area. You can see it at this link:  https://bodegahead.blogspot.com/

Thanks to Jackie for allowing me to share her photo with you here. You can subscribe to her free, near-daily blog at the above link too.

Sunny, beautiful, breezy - it's summer on the Mendonoma coast!

We have fog over the Pacific Ocean today so this scene might be repeated tonight. Paul Brewer photographed this recently.

It looks like it was going to be a green flash. You look for the top of the sun to separate, giving you a short, emerald green flash. It rarely happens, though, setting into fog, but I have seen it once or twice.

Tamir Scheinok was paddle boarding in the Gualala several weeks ago. He wrote, “I have only seen Bald Eagles from a distance. This male landed about 30 feet from me and stood in the water for about ten minutes before heading off. It’s hard to describe sharing this space with him – a truly majestic creature.”

Tamir captured the moment the Bald Eagle lifted off, a magnificent photo, and what a wonderful experience for Tamir. I must say, I'm a little jealous!

Thanks to Tamir for allowing me to share his photo with you here.

Fog covers the Pacific Ocean today like whipped cream, which sends cool air our way. The antidote for the heat wave inland is to head for the coast!

Marilyn Green found this iridescent beetle on some sea grass. I discovered it is indeed a jewel - Jewel Beetle, Buprestidae.

Quite the striking beetle!

Thanks to Marilyn for allowing me to share her photo with you here.

Beautiful clouds have arrived from monsoonal moisture in the southern part of California. The sunset should be amazing!

This is the time of year we see fledglings, chicks who have left their nest. Ruth Alexander photographed several Northern Flickers recently, one even perched on her window sill, looking in the window. We think this photo shows a juvenile  male.

Here is a photo by Paul Brewer of an adult, which has red on its cheeks rather than the light color in Ruth's photo.

If you look closely at a flicker's chest feathers, they look like little hearts.

Thanks to Ruth and Paul for allowing me to share their photos with you here. To see much more of Paul's nature photography, here is his website: http://www.capturingnatureswonders.com/
