Gulls can be seen surfing the air above big waves. Grace O'Malley photographed a magnificent wave, with several gulls enjoying the action.

You can almost hear the sound of this wave breaking! And perhaps a few "yahoos!" from the surfing gulls.

Much cooler today, with clouds beginning to arrive. Rain is in our forecast! With the overhead clouds, tonight's sunset could be amazing.

Allen Vinson noticed this early morning sight, sunbeams streaming through the forest.

Allen also photographed one of several beautiful sunsets we had over the past weekend. This is from Friday night, Jan. 15, 2021

Beauty is everywhere!

Another lovely spring-like day, but there is rain coming in late this weekend, I hope! In the meantime, larger numbers of Gray Whales are passing by the Mendonoma Coast, headed southward. You can read more about Scott and Tree Mercer's sightings of the migration on their Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/Mendonoma-Whale-and-Seal-Study-1421926098039236

Bill Mabie found this Bobcat near Irish Beach, and he got a wonderful photo of the cat with the bobbed tail.

The markings on every Bobcat are unique to itself, like our fingerprints.

Foggy right along the coast, and bright sunshine at our house, which is a 1/2 mile from the ocean. The Mendonoma Coast has many microclimates. The temperature hit 72 degrees today, not very winter-like!

Richard Denton noticed the beach at the mouth of the Russian River was covered in hundreds, perhaps thousands, of gulls. The two dozen or so Harbor Seals look to be surrounded!

Thanks to Richard for allowing me to share his photo with you here.

We had quite a bit of rain from the storm to the north. Then the fog settled in to spend the rest of the day on the Mendonoma Coast. Sunny and warmer is the forecast.

Two other coast residents photographed the grand conjunction, where Jupiter and Saturn were the closest they had been to each other since the Middle Ages. Elizabeth Fernandes photographed the event.

Molly Scaramella also photographed it, zooming in on the two planets.

This conjunction won't happen again until March 15, 2080.

Thanks to Elizabeth and Molly for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

A little overnight rain, and a drippy, foggy day today. The Pacific Ocean has been LOUD with huge swells hitting the Mendonoma Coast. The King Tides are 1/11/21 and 1/12/21.
