Eric Zetterholm had fun watching Caspian Terns fishing together at the Gualala River.

Here one rests in the river.

Here's what Eric observed: “There are three that seem to work together. They fly into the wind that blows up the river and allows them to move slowly as they fish. They fly up to the mouth together with a space of a hundred yards or so between them, and return in a group. It is a fun challenge to get a picture of them flying by and diving for the fish. They seem to be getting along with the few Osprey on the river, but there is a lot of chatter and calls between them all.”

Karen Tucker photographed this ethereal sight - the full, or nearly full, moon shining over Fish Rocks off Anchor Bay.

A beautiful sight for you today. Fish Rocks has an active colony of male California Sea Lions. They obviously have a lot to say to each other as they can be heard barking all day long!

The Gray Whale migration of mother/calf pairs is pretty much over. But a few weeks ago, Paul and Jacquie Brewer saw two sets of Gray Whale pairs swim past their Gualala home.

It's comforting to know the whales are swimming northward to their feeding grounds. We should be seeing other species of whales soon. We'll be looking for Humpbacks, Fin Whales and the largest of them all, Blue Whales in the days ahead. I did receive a sighting of several Orcas yesterday, Saturday. No photos, though.

Early this morning the sound of raindrops woke me up - surprise! Not much, but a nice surprise. Then the clouds swept away, revealing a beautiful, warm spring day.

Velvet is the membrane that nourishes the growing antlers inside. This buck sure looks healthy, and you can see the black tail for which these Deer were named.
