Jeff Goll recently photographed this beautiful Western Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly.

I saw Monarch Butterflies yesterday at the Gualala Community Center. There are some huge Butterfly bushes there that the Monarchs were feeding on. There are also several active Barn Swallow nests there.

Thanks to Jeff for allowing me to share his beautiful photo with you here.

It's a glorious day here today, sunny and mild. Perfect weather for Art in the Redwoods at the Gualala Arts Center!

Pygmy Nuthatches are tiny birds. Just look at this cute one Ron Bolander recently photographed next to a cone!

The group of Pygmy Nuthatches, now numbering seven, continues to spend the night inside a birdhouse at Rick's and my place in Anchor Bay. Here is a video of them coming in for the night. Click on the blue letters and numbers below.

They arrive at dusk and leave at first light...unless they hear Ravens. Then the become silent and wait inside until the danger has passed over them. Seeing them each day reminds me the days are getting shorter.

Thanks to Ron for allowing me to share his photo with you here.

The fog has disappeared and warm weather is moving in!

Kathleen Chasey wrote, “I wanted to share this photo of our coastal onion. It seems like nearly all of the native bulbs really put on a ‘super-bloom’ show this year. It could be the odd rain timing was really right for bulbs - and dandelions! I’ve been surveying Salt Point for NOAA for five years now and this was the very best bulb year. Its fading fast now.”

They sure look pretty! These wild onions are endemic to California. Thanks to Kathleen for allowing me to share her photo here.

Smoke moved in from a distant wildfire. Fog is over the ocean and it's warm away from the immediate coast.

Sandy and Allen Vinson have a remote camera  at their Sea Ranch home. It  got several photos of a beautiful fogbow for us to enjoy. Sandy wrote, “Here are photos I took via our WYZE camera. It shows the date and time."

We don't see these too often, so it's a treat to see! Fogbows are also called white rainbows.

Thanks to Sandy for allowing me to share this photo with you here.

Sunny, mild and breezy today.

Sara Bogard saw this Bald Eagle coming in for a landing on the sand by the P'Da Hau, aka the Garcia River.

I love how her shadow is seen in Sara's photo.

Thanks  to Sara for allowing me to share her photo with you here.

Sunny and mild here today!
