Peter Baye found a very late blooming Western Columbine, Aquilegia formosa.
And I found a very early Matsutake.

It's another beautiful Autumn day here on the Mendonoma Coast. There was a pretty impressive fog bank early this morning but it is gone this afternoon, leaving nothing but sunshine!
I'm happy to report that the mated pair of Bald Eagles has once again paired up. They have been seen together near the Gualala River. Rozanne Rapozo was at the river when this Bald Eagle came in for a landing on a branch.
And here...wait for it...the eagle has landed!

It's a spectacular day on the Mendonoma Coast! The Pacific Ocean has been active, with huge swells hitting the coast. It's sunny with temps in the 60's and some high clouds overhead. The breezes picked up this afternoon. The light this time of year is so beautiful - it has a golden glow. And, if it weren't already such a nice day, I found the first two matsutake mushrooms of the year. Very early this year!
Gail Jackson was at Gualala Point Regional Park at sunrise when she spotted this Coyote on Monday, October 17.
Four weeks ago, Eric Zetterholm photographed theses two Coyotes above Reef Campground, near Fort Ross. I wonder if one of these two might have traveled up the coast to GPRP.
We don't see Coyotes very often here on the Mendonoma Coast.

It's a beautiful Autumn day here today, temps in the 60s with some high clouds passing by, and a nice breeze. Humpbacks were seen yesterday!
Clouds overhead but clear on the horizon is a wonderful recipe for a striking sunset. That's what we witnessed on Friday night. I took these photos from the deck of our place in Anchor Bay.
In the last photo, the golden photo, you can see a faint sun pillar. My visiting friend, Shelly, and I almost couldn't believe what we were seeing!
It's sunny and windy here on the Mendonoma Coast today, temps in the high 60's.
Michael Reinhart saw this female Common Merganser at the Gualala River and the merganser had caught her lunch!
Mike also photographed an American Goldfinch feeding on thistle.
And Marbled Godwits at Manchester State Beach. You can also see the Bull Kelp tossed up on the beach by the ocean waves.

It's about 20 degrees cooler today, with a big fog bank back over the Pacific Ocean. It really feels like Autumn today. I found King Boletes, a Queen Bolete, and a Shrimp Russula late yesterday afternoon. Lots of mushrooms are popping up now.
