The Point Arena Lighthouse is closed now but Executive Director, Mark Hancock, goes to check on things. He took this photo a few days ago of the multitude of wildflowers appearing now.

I see California Poppies, Blue-eyed Grass, Douglas Iris, Sea Thrift and more. Mark says it is sad that others can't see this beautiful sight, but Mark's photo will have to suffice this year.

Thanks to Mark for allowing me to share his photo with you here. When things open up again, this beautiful lighthouse would be a great place to visit. They have accommodations too. Here's their website: https://www.pointarenalighthouse.com/

We are having a beautiful, sunny day to shelter in place today. Rain coming in tomorrow. Bring it, Mother Nature!

Spring doesn't know...

Shirley Mitchell photographed the beautiful scene at Black Point Beach on The Sea Ranch. A sea of Goldfields on the bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

In this photo Shirley photographed some pink Butter 'n' Eggs, aka Johnny Tuck, with the GoldfieldsWe had a nice rain event yesterday, Thursday, and we have another predicted for Saturday. The late rains are sure to replenish the wildflowers, allowing them to bloom longer.

Thanks to Shirley for allowing me to share her photos with you here.

Mary Sue Ittner was at Manchester State Beach with the Thursday Ramblers, a local hiking group. She found California Poppies blooming in profusion.

And Baby Blue Eyes.

And Cream Cups too.

Here's what it looked like when Mary Sue photographed the scene.

Thanks to Mary Sue for allowing me to share her photos with you here.

Mary Sue Ittner was on the Thursday Ramblers' hike last week. She found one of the first Western Trilliums, Trillium ovatum, up. It obviously had been raining!

She also found Slink Pod, Scoliopus bigelovii. I love looking for these tiny wildflowers. They are very hard to spot, so you look for the two leaves poking through the forest duff.

This morning I noticed the first Bracken Fern up and a few Huckleberry blossoms. Spring must be right around the corner! Thanks to Mary Sue for allowing me to share her photos with you here.

We have a lot of rain in our forecast, but there will be breaks to allow for nature walks on bluffs or along forest paths. Heed the siren call on Mother Nature!

Anne Mary Schaefer wrote, “I’ve been trying to stop by there for some time, and on Saturday afternoon the parking lot was packed! But watching the clouds streaming by throughout the afternoon into early evening, I thought it might be a lovely night for me and the kids to explore some of the trails. And I was right! The light was golden and luscious, and with not a car in the lot, we had the entire place to ourselves.”

Pelican Bluffs Preserve and Coastal Trail is a jewel. It's our newest open space acquisition overseen by the Mendocino Land Trust. To learn more about it, here's the link: https://www.mendocinolandtrust.org/trails/southern-coastal-trails/pelican-bluffs-trail/

It's cloudy and cool here today, and tomorrow we might get some nice rain. After that, it will be sunny and warmer. Memorial Day weekend is almost here, and the Mendonoma coast beckons!
