I never get tired of rainbows and I hope you don't either! Cooks Beach is a beautiful pocket beach north of Gualala. Steve Bennett recently got this photo of the beach and a lovely rainbow.

Thanks to Steve for allowing me to share his photo with you here. You can learn about Cooks Beach at the Redwood Coast Land Conservancy's website at this link: https://www.rclc.org/

Wow, we had an early morning downpour, 0.50 inches, and 48.52 season to date. More rain coming starting Sunday afternoon. But when you look at next week, after Monday it looks like spring is arriving early on the Mendonoma Coast!

Ospreys returned to the Mendonoma Coast several weeks ago. They got busy rebuilding their stick nests. Ospreys mostly eat fish, and it's a treat to see them dive for a fish feet-first. Steve Bennett photographed a successful Osprey.

Notice how the Osprey carries the fish. They always fly with the head of the fish positioned to the front. It's more aerodynamic that way.

I love the calls of Osprey. I've been hearing them every day since they returned. To hear their whistling calls, here is the link to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Osprey/sounds

Cool weather has returned. We had fog today. It burned back around 2 pm here in Anchor Bay.

Scott Mercer noticed a feeding frenzy off the Mendonoma Coast. Anchovies have been here in massive abundance. Whales, fish and birds - and who knows who else! - have been feeding on them.

Steve Bennett photographed the fun sight of Brown Pelicans coming in for a landing, with some cormorants watching.

Smoky and mild on the Mendonoma Coast today. We're hoping the sea breezes will pick up and disperse the smoke.

I have never seen a young Western Gray Squirrel but Steve Bennett recently captured one with his camera. Cute little guy or gal!

Gray Squirrels are tree squirrels, and they are known to be shy. When you see one, most likely it will run up a tree! Here's a photo of a mature Gray Squirrel taken by Ron LeValley.

We have these handsome squirrels living in the area where we live.

The heat wave ended, the marine layer pushed in and smoke overhead made for an eerie, cool day.

Steve Bennett photographed these two Western Gulls strolling along the beach, at Bowling Ball Beach.

Western Gulls are the only year-round Gulls on the Mendonoma coast. We do see other species of Gulls arriving  now, to overwinter here or, perhaps, just passing through.

Here's a close-up of one of these gulls, taken by Allen Vinson. They are quite beautiful, and just look at those pink legs and webbed feet!

Thanks to Steve and Allen for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

Oh my, the fog rolled in thick and heavy today, and it's cold!
