Spiders are associated with Halloween so I thought I'd share a recent photo of a scary-looking Orb Weaver. Kathy Gustafson photographed this spider. She and I believe it is a Pumpkin Orb Weaver.

Even though it looks pretty scary, it's a good guy in the spider world. Harmless to humans, orb weavers build beautiful webs.

Rozann Grunig recently photographer spider webs, highlighted by morning dew. They may well have been built by orb weaver spiders.

Here's a photo of spider web jewels taken by Craig Tooley. It is in Craig's and my beautiful book, Mendonoma Sightings Throughout the Year.

Rozann Grunig recently photographed the beachgoers at the mouth of the Russian River in Jenner. There was a lot of action! Well, maybe not so much from the relaxed Harbor Seals.

Rozann's photo shows many Brown Pelicans, Gulls, and some shorebirds. The juvenile Brown Pelicans are migrating north now. The young ones have brown heads and white underparts; the adults have white heads with brown underparts.

Great Blue Herons are year round residents of the Mendonoma Coast. They hunt for a variety of food, including fish and small rodents. Rob Diefenbach recently photographed one on the hunt for a tasty rodent.

I have previously shared photos of the fantastic sunset we had on Valentine's Day. Rozann Grunig was in Jenner that day when the sun was setting. She got this dramatic photo with the lights reflected in the Russian River.

During the recent high tides, Rozann Grunig went to the Gualala Bluff Trail to photograph the big surf. She found this Great Blue Heron seemingly watching the surf. It took flight and Rozann got this photo.

She also got this dramatic photo of the King Tides washing over the sandbar of the Gualala River.
