Lynn Bailey sent along a motion detector video from March 4 at the Villa del Mar main dumpster. This is in Gualala. It showed a mountain lion strolling through, a gray fox hurrying along, two more mountain lions, followed by a raccoon. The raccoon headed straight for the dumpster.

Here's a photo of a healthy-looking Mountain Lion taken by Susan Sandoval for you to see.

Here is the lone Mountain Lion:

Next is the Gray Fox:

Then two Mountain Lions:

And lastly the Raccoon:

That's a busy place! Thanks to Lynn for allowing me to share his videos with you here. the photo of the Mountain Lion was taken in a previous year by Susan Sandoval. The Sandovals and Lynn Bailey live fairly close to one another!

It's a spectacular day here today. Sunny and warm. Happy Easter and Happy Passover to those who celebrate them!

Ruth Downes noticed a Chestnut-backed Chickadee on her hummingbird feeder, drinking sugar water.

And Adrian Bennett found a tiny Sierran Treefrog sitting on her nectar feeder. We think the frog may have been attracted to the moisture or perhaps small insects caught in the sugar water on the lid.

Then Thane Frivold's dog, Moon, alerted him to a masked bandit at his feeder one night. Here is the video of the Raccoon obviously relished the sweet treat.

Who knew hummingbird feeders were popular with such diverse animals! Thanks to Ruth and Adrian for allowing me to share their photos, and to Thane for allowing me to share his video, with you here.

Today, Wednesday, is one of the most beautiful days of the year. It really feels like Autumn today, with gentle breezes, blue skies and mild temps.

Young Raccoons are fun to photograph. They are inquisitive, active and photogenic. That's all Craig Tooley needs to get a great photo.

With the dark facial markings across its eyes, you can see why Raccoons are nicknamed "Masked Bandits." Raccoons are very intelligent and they are quite dexterous with their front paws. Recently a Raccoon got in a cat door of a friend. It proceeded to open each canister on her counter until it found the canister containing brown sugar. Yep, that Raccoon had a real sweet tooth and ate all the brown sugar.

Siegfried Matull has a stump on his Sea Ranch property that became the backdrop for a charming photo. A mother Raccoon and her four kits (also called cubs) were seen climbing on the stump. The baby Raccoon on the right froze on the stump and began crying. Siegfried captured the moment where the mother reached up to help her little one - a charming photo, indeed. Thanks to Siegfried for allowing me to share this photo with you!

Siegfried Matull has set his camera lens on a grouping of stone owls at his home at The Sea Ranch. He got a Raccoon appearing to hug one of the owls - a touch of whimsy and fun for you today.
All my best, Jeanne Jackson, Gualala
