One of the secrets of the Mendonoma Coast is the beautiful weather we usually have in between storms. Inland may be covered in dense fog while we bask in sunshine. Storms bring - or leave - magnificent sunsets. Allen Vinson photographed Thursday's sunset, which was sandwiched in between two storms.

Rick and I always try to watch the sunset. If the horizon is clear there is a chance for a green flash. It doesn't happen often but when it does it is thrilling. To see a photo of a green flash taken here on the Coast by Allen, here is the link: http://www.mendonomasightings.com/2012/10/04/sundays-green-flash-as-photographed-by-allen-vinson/

My thanks to Allen for allowing me to share his beautiful sunset photo with you here.

Allen Vinson was watching the sunset Sunday on the bluffs at Walk On Beach on The Sea Ranch. He too caught magic and photographed the green flash.

Below Allen cropped his photo so you could see the green flash close-up.

Many thanks to Allen  - and his new Nikon D600 - for allowing me to share his photo with you here.

Patty Buechner was at Gualala Point Regional Park watching the sunset. She caught magic when she photographed the green flash.

We are having our usual autumn heat wave and that means the fog has disappeared, leaving a clear horizon. That's the recipe for a possible green flash. Not a myth, but reality - the elusive green flash is always a treat to see.

Thanks to Patty for allowing me to share her photo with you here. I have another photo of Sunday's green flash to show you tomorrow. You are bound to be amazed!

August 7th was the day Ron LeValley caught magic with his camera. He photographed the setting sun in the hopes of capturing a green flash from the Little River Headlands in Mendocino County. To see a green flash is special enough but this one turned blue and then violet on each side.

What an incredible photo! Rick and I have purchase a copy so we can have it in our home. Here's the link to Ron's web site if you'd like to own a copy too: http://www.levalleyphoto.com/home/

I have several photos of the green flash on this site. Here's a link to one of them: http://www.mendonomasightings.com/2012/02/07/the-green-flash-was-photographed-by-richard-kuehn/

Thanks to Ron for allowing me to share this unique photo with you here.

Last Friday and Saturday the Mendonoma Coast experienced offshore breezes and there was a green flash each night at sunset. Tom Eckles manged to photograph Saturday's Green Flash. I am quite jealous as I have tried and failed to capture this phenomenon. I console myself with the fact Tom is a professional photographer. Thanks, Tom, for allowing me to share your photo here. Yes, the Green Flash is NOT a myth!
