I shared with you last week a photo Jon Shiu took of a Black Bear eating huckleberries in Elk. Here is the other photo Jon took.

Gosh, that is a big bear! And this bear sure loves huckleberries. Jon watched as he/she took a branch laden with berries, and ran the branch through his/her mouth That's efficient picking! Thanks to Jon for allowing me to share his photo with you here. And here's to learning to live with the wildlife that was here before us.

Spectacular day on the Mendonoma coast today!

This is the time of year we have daily sightings of Monarch Butterflies. These are the members of the Methuselah generation, the longer-lived butterflies that will migrate south. They are feeding and gathering strength for their migration. I saw this one feeding on my abelia bush and then resting on a nearby leaf.

Catherine Miller photographed this Monarch feeding on her lantana.

Today is the autumnal equinox. What better way to celebrate the changing of the seasons with photos of Monarch Butterflies.

Thanks to Catherine for allowing me to share her photo with you here. Happy autumn, everyone!

I can't resist sharing such beauty with you. Photographer Paul Brewer was in Jenner when the sunset looked like this.

Breathtaking, don't you think?!

We had some welcome rain yesterday morning. We had .17 inch in our rain gauge. Not much, that's true, but September rain is always a boon.

Connie King captured this moment of peace, a young Buck asleep in the grass.

This young buck is living lightly on the land at The Sea Ranch. Thanks to Connie for allowing me to share her photo with you here.

Allen Vinson spotted this handsome bobcat recently, strolling through the grasses.

The bobcat is looking right at Allen! This looks like a big bobcat. I think it's interesting to know that the markings on each bobcat's coat is unique to itself, just like our fingerprints are to us.

Here's a photo Allen took some years ago, a favorite of mine. You can see the tufted ears quite clearly in this photo, and a douglas iris in the background.

Bobcats can be seen fairly often hunting for gophers and other tasty rodents in meadows on the Mendonoma coast.
