Sara Bogard noticed this Osprey a few weeks ago at the Point Arena Lighthouse bluffs. It was a foggy day and the fog framed this Osprey beautifully.

Sara also got two photos of the Osprey in flight.

Most Ospreys are migrating southward now, though it isn't unheard of to have an Osprey overwinter on the Mendonoma Coast.

Thanks to Sara for allowing me to share her photos with you here.

Rain and lots of it! Wind too! We lost power but got it back this afternoon.

Yesterday's sunrise, before the clouds moved in, was quite lovely. Tricia Schuster recently photographed a beautiful sunset.

Truly, a sunset to instill feelings of thankfulness and gratefulness. As tomorrow in the United States is Thanksgiving, I felt it was the perfect time to share Tricia's beautiful photo with you.

Thanks to Tricia for allowing me to share her photo with you here.

Rain, and more rain! We received over 2.14 inches of rain from the first big storm, and we are having some brief downpours today. Can edible mushrooms be in our immediate future?

Ruby-crowned Kinglets are small birds, smaller than a warbler or a chickadee. The males have a patch of red feathers at the top of their heads. However that flash of red isn't often seen. Michael Reinhart recently photographed a male showing off those dramatically-colored feathers.

Notice the yellow toes! These birds constantly flick their wings, giving you a clue as to what you are seeing. Their calls are quite distinctive too. You can listen at this link: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Ruby-crowned_Kinglet/sounds

Thanks to Michael for allowing me to share his photo with you here.

ooo, we are going to have a big, wet, wonderful storm today and tomorrow. We need it, that's for sure. It's also turned quite cold - cold for the North Coast, that is. It's only 45 degrees at noon today.

Craig Tooley spotted these two young White-tailed Kites recently, something we don't see very often.

I love these raptors. It's fun watching them hover in the air, looking for their favorite meal of small rodents. Here is a link to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology to hear their chirping call: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/White-tailed_Kite/sounds

Sunny and mild today, though the Pacific Ocean is crashing, making a lot of noise!

Jim Biller was thrilled to see this special frog - a frog that is federally listed as “threatened” under the Endangered Species Act. Because of that, this frog is protected by law. Meet the California Red-legged Frog.

Jim wrote, “This guy posed for us in the host site at the Gualala Point Campground on Saturday night. I have more photos, different angles, and two witness statements from campers saying they saw me taking pictures of it.” We believe you, Jim! And we're happy to see this special frog.

Thanks to Jim for allowing me to share his photos with you here.

The Pacific Ocean is telling us that our calm, dry weather is coming to an end. The waves were crashing today! We have several days of dry weather, making this weekend a perfect time to head to the Mendonoma coast. Starting next Tuesday, we are expecting the first big storm of the season. Hooray!
