The Cypress Abbey addition to the Point Arena-Stornetta Lands can be accessed behind Point Arena City Hall. There are new lands to explore and are they ever beautiful! Paula Power took several photos of these lands recently.

Here are some of the rock formations. In the far distance you can see the white Lighthouse.

And here is a photo of Surfgrass, Phyllospadix. It’s a submerged aquatic plant that pollinates underwater. The leaves are tough as leather and highly flexible.

The rare and endangered Supple Daisy has been seen here, as has King Gentian. I'm sure we'll be discovering more wildflowers and other treasures as we explore this land in the future.

Seeing newborn Fawns always makes me smile. They are the essence of loveliness. Robert Scarola recently photographed twin Fawns near his home on The Sea Ranch.

The mother leaves her newborns hidden in the grass while she feeds. You should never try to "rescue" a fawn. Just back away and the Doe will find her babies.

As their common name suggests, Stream Orchids grow near water. Holly McCarroll-Baker found some growing near a tributary of the Gualala River.

Their scientific name is Epipactis gigantean and they are also called Chatter Box Orchid. Why? Because the flowers are hinged. When a breeze hits them the petals move. Listen closely and you might hear what they are saying!

Holly is a caterer and owner of Peace of Nature Farms in Annapolis. She catered the book launch party for my book, Mendonoma Sightings Throughout The Year. Here she is with photographer Craig Tooley and me just before the doors opened.

Along with quite a few appetizers, she made 1000 truffles, yes 1000 truffles! And not one remained.

We've had  lot of wind and no fog here on the Mendonoma Coast. Last Thursday we had some high clouds that gave us a beautiful sunset. Paul Brewer photographed the sunset from the banks of the Gualala River.

The Gualala River looks pink and mauve with the clouds reflected off of it. Just beautiful.
