Jan de Vries tells me that, from his house in Berkeley, the sun perfectly lines up with the Golden Gate Bridge twice a year. Many years clouds or fog obscure the view. But this year the weather was clear. Last week he took this photo of the sun setting behind the iconic bridge.

With the calm weather we've been having on the Coast, fishing boats can be seen plying the waters at night. Jon Loveless recently photographed a sunset with a fishing boat at work.

The Salal Trail waterfall is very beautiful. When winter rains really get it going, it is something to behold. Paul Kozal photographed it a few weeks ago after the wonderful storms we had.

Of course Paul is a professional photographer and able to take a photo like this. I, on the other hand, am not a professional. But I did get two nice photos of the waterfall several years ago.

The Salal Trail is a public access trail that begins at Gualala Point Regional Park. After the pay station, turn into the parking area on the left and look for this trailhead sign.

It is a wonderful trail that eventually ends at a small beach.

Mark Simkins photographed a juvenile Red-shouldered Hawk recently. They are hawks of the forest, hunting prey such as frogs, mice and snakes.

And Richard Kuehn photographed a juvenile Northern Harrier. They fly low over the land hunting their prey, small animals.

Our last storm brought us magnificent rainbows. Jim Alinder photographed this one, which stretched over the town of Gualala.

Jim took this photo from the front door of his gallery, Alinder Gallery. He then went to his back door, which overlooks the Gualala Bluff Trail, and took this photo - a very dramatic weather day!

The morning of this rainbow Rick was driving down Highway One, just north of Gualala. He drove through a rainbow! Now, that's something that doesn't happen very often. We decided it meant good luck.

Last week Alan Reinke photographed Black Point Beach, seemingly missing its beautiful beach. The king tides, super high tides, had washed over it.

We continue to have sunny, calm weather. Gray Whales have been spotted often. I saw two pods this morning, heading south. A pod of eight Killer Whales was seen today, heading north. When the ocean is calm, she reveals many wonderful sightings. We apparently have another week before our rains begin again.
