We're usually looking for Boleus edulis, porcini, in late October and November. But we did have a nice rain in September. That, combined with fog drip, has coaxed several Boletes to pop. Justin Rosenthal found the first ones on The Sea Ranch.

Justin said they were growing about 1/4 mile inland in tall grasses. She said they were hard to see.

Irma Brandt was encouraged to go check one of her spots this past week. Look what she found - two pristine, perfect Boletes.

Several others have found a few too. I think it is going to take a couple of good rainstorms to convince more of these delicious edible mushrooms to appear.

Margaret Lindgren, of Unbeaten Path Tours, took clients out two days ago, touring the Point Arena-Stornetta Lands. The surf was amazing.

The mist from the crashing waves drifted over Highway One. Yes, the Pacific Ocean was having its say!

Big bucks, showing off their antlers, have been seen pursuing does. Maureen Simons watched a pair recently. They caught wind of Maureen and took flight.

Two days ago I heard rustling outside the window. I looked out and there was a buck and a doe near a big huckleberry bush. I said, "Hello, beautiful," which appeared to be the wrong thing to say! The buck went crashing into the huckleberry bush, entangling his antlers for a short time. He successfully disentangled himself and then took off. I saw them a little later as the doe grazed and the buck followed close behind.

Not everyone on the Mendonoma Coast got to see last night's beautiful sunset, as fog hugged the immediate coast. But Rick and I were able to see it unfold from our place in Anchor Bay. It lasted almost...forever.

Of course my camera can only capture a portion of the colors, so you will have to imagine the colors extending left, right, and overhead. Wow, what a wonderful sunset!

This afternoon waves have begun crashing against the shore. A storm from elsewhere is bringing high surf and dangerous conditions to beaches for today and tomorrow. Stay safe everyone.

Bob Rutemoeller noticed two Great Egrets at the Gualala River recently. One of them he was able to get relatively close to, and he got some wonderful photos. The first photo shows the Egret's reflection in river.

And then the Great Egret did a flyby right over Bob and he got these beautiful photos.
