Holly McCarroll found this beauty, a delicious edible Porcini, aka King Bolete, aka Boletus edulis.

Catherine Miller found a pristine King Bolete today north of Gualala. It's been a strange year for the earlier mushrooms. Winter mushrooms are beginning to appear. The first Matsutakes have appeared, as have the first Hedgehogs. More to come in the days ahead!

Sunny and mild today - temps in the mid 60's. We know it won't last, but we are enjoying the warmth today. Happy New Year!

Amy Ruegg was at Stengel Beach on The Sea Ranch recently. She wrote, “It has been beautiful seeing the waterways fill up, and the rain soak the earth.

The cloudy sunsets have been almost unbelievable of late, as if a piece of heaven fell to earth. I enjoyed seeing a splashing waterfall there. The tide was low as the sunset revealed a purple and an orange Sea Star clinging tightly to slippery rocks.”

After a strong storm on Sunday, today is a different story. Sunny, with a few clouds to add interest, and cool temps. Come to the Mendonoma Coast to start your year off right!

Nik Epanchin photographed the growing sink hole that is north of the gazebo at the Point Arena Lighthouse. This is how it looked Dec. 16th. That white fence used to extend over land that is no longer there.

Dennis Latona recently photographed it from atop the Lighthouse.

And here is what is looked like in January of 2019, taken by Nik. Quite the difference.

It's a good reminder to stay back from the bluff edge, especially this time of year when the bluffs are saturated.

Margaret Lindgren recently led a hike which included Salal Trail, a public access trail that begins at Gualala Point Regional Park and then onto The Sea Ranch. There is a beautiful cascade to discover.

This is a beautiful spot. Here is a photo I took several years ago, showing more of the pond.

Oh my, the weather is sunny and chilly. Visitors here for the holidays are enjoying everything the Mendonoma Coast has to offer.
