We had a VERY vigorous storm come through late yesterday. Heavy rain, wind, even some thunder and lightning. 2.90 inches in our rain gauge, but my sister in Point Arena got nearly 3 and 1/2 inches. Usually Point Arena's rainfall total is significantly below ours in Anchor Bay. 17.25 inches season to date. And more on the way! Today is a "wait five minutes" kind of day - sunshine, showers, sunshine...

Sara Bogard was charmed by this sight - a group of Killdeer in the new labyrinth installed on the grounds of the Point Arena Lighthouse.

Killdeer are graceful plovers, and they are shorebirds that often can be found away from the shore. I always enjoy seeing these beautiful birds. Thanks to Sara for allowing me to share her photo with you here.

Just scroll down the page to find the information on the labyrinth. I haven't walked it yet, but I look forward to doing that soon. I did spend some time on the bluffs of the Lighthouse a few days ago, sitting socially distant from whale experts, Scott and Tree Mercer. We spotted two groups of Gray Whales, migrating southward. The Mercers are seeing large numbers of migrating whales this week.

It's rainy here today, with much more coming in on Tuesday. Bring it, Mother Nature!

Gulls can be seen surfing the air above big waves. Grace O'Malley photographed a magnificent wave, with several gulls enjoying the action.

You can almost hear the sound of this wave breaking! And perhaps a few "yahoos!" from the surfing gulls.

Much cooler today, with clouds beginning to arrive. Rain is in our forecast! With the overhead clouds, tonight's sunset could be amazing.

Another lovely spring-like day, but there is rain coming in late this weekend, I hope! In the meantime, larger numbers of Gray Whales are passing by the Mendonoma Coast, headed southward. Bill Mabie found this Bobcat near Irish Beach, and he got a wonderful photo of the cat with the bobbed tail.

The markings on every Bobcat are unique to itself, like our fingerprints.

Foggy right along the coast, and bright sunshine at our house, which is a 1/2 mile from the ocean. The Mendonoma Coast has many microclimates. The temperature hit 72 degrees today, not very winter-like!
