It’s nice to toast a beautiful sunset. Monique Cooper wrote, “I took this photo Sunday in Irish Beach. I noticed this little fella, a Banana Slug, checking out my glass of wine.”

Watching the sunset is a coast tradition, apparently even for Banana Slugs!

Thanks to Monique for allowing me to share her photo with you here.

Banana slugs often eat mushrooms in the forest. Bill Clark photographed one in the act.

All sizes of Banana slugs are appearing now in the forest. We have to be careful where we step because we really, really, really do not want to step on one.

Thanks to Bill for allowing me to share his photo with you here.

Ron LeValley captured a photo of a Western Gray Squirrel sitting by a tiny forest of mushrooms. Ron wrote, "I know these little fellows like to eat mushrooms. If this one likes those little ones, it must have been very happy as about a thousand of them fruited on the morning I took this picture!"

Western Gray Squirrel by Ron LeValleyThese mushrooms could be Liberty Caps, Psilocybe semilanceata, and they have hallucinogenic  properties. Perhaps this beautiful Gray Squirrel just let them be.

It's obvious Banana Slugs eat mushrooms - a walk in a forest after a rain will show you just how much they love mushrooms. Ann Davis photographed this Banana Slug munching on one.

I believe Gray Foxes and Deer eat mushrooms too. And, of course, we critters with two legs.

Thanks to Ron and Ann for allowing me to share their photos with you here. To see much more of Ron's nature photography, here is his website: http://levalleyphoto.com/home/

The beautiful red-topped mushroom with the white spots, Fly Amanita, has begun to fruit on the Mendonoma Coast. Bob Schwein recently photographed a newly sprouted one being sampled by a Banana Slug.

Thanks to Bob for allowing me to share his photo with you here.

The fog was heavy and cold this morning but as we walked alongside the Gualala River we left the fog behind. The river is low, waiting for the rains to come. The water is crystal clear.

Of course we took our golden retriever, Huckleberry, along. He LOVES the Gualala River.

And taking a gravel bath afterwards. Life is very good indeed when you are a golden.

Walking back Rick saw this little Chorus Frog jump. Its new name is Sierran Tree Frog.

Entering the forest we were surprised to see fresh Oyster Mushrooms growing on downed tree. A Banana Slug is enjoying a nice meal, provided courtesy of Mother Nature. The fog has been so heavy and dense, there was enough moisture for this edible mushroom to fruit.

Autumn on the Mendonoma Coast - it's magic!
