Richard Hansen photographed a big wave hitting Castle Rock, which is off Gualala. Castle Rock is perhaps seventy feet high.

Here's one of my favorite photos Richard has taken of waves at Castle Rock - here's a monster wave!

Many were photographing last night's sunset, or simply watching it with great pleasure. It's a boon to be able to take the time to watch a beautiful sunset. Richard Hansen photographed it from his home in Gualala so you can see it too.

Richard also photographed this morning's sunrise.

There is no fog to be seen, and only the gentlest of breezes. This final holiday weekend of the summer season is turning out to be magnificent. I won't even mention the sparkling night sky.

One of my favorite birds, Brown Pelicans have been seen riding the thermals along the coastline. Richard Hansen photographed the returning adults.

Adult Brown Pelicans have white heads and brown underparts. The juveniles with their brown heads and white underparts will be seen once they have grown strong enough to undertake the migration.

Richard Hansen recently photographed this lovely sunset from his home in Gualala.

Rick and I watched this sunset too from our home in Anchor Bay. It *almost* doesn't look real, but I can assure you Richard's photo is the real deal.

Two mornings in a row the sunrise was spectacular. I've already shared Carolyn André's series of photos of November 16th. Here are several more. Robert Scarola took this photo on November 16th of the sunrise in the east.

Paul Brewer took this photo the same morning from a different perspective.

And finally Richard Hansen captured this lovely sunrise the next day showing Castle Rock. For a few minutes the Pacific Ocean looked purple.
