Sightings

Peter Baye found some lovely wildflowers in the Annapolis area. The first is Bristly Jewelflower, Streptanthus glandulosus. It's a member of the mustard family

Next is the lovely Bird's-Eye Gilia, Gilia tricolor.

Bird's-Eye Gilias are members of the Phlox family. Both of these flowers are California natives. They should never be picked - just enjoy their loveliness in the wild.

Thanks to Peter for allowing me to share his photos with you here.

As it happens every year in the spring, the Gualala River is closed at the river mouth by a big sandbar. Rick and I went to Gualala Point Regional Park to photograph it.

Once the river is closed, the mouth of the river is called a lagoon. When the river is open it is called an estuary. With the river closed it is a very safe river to kayak.

To rent a kayak on the Gualala River, here is the website for Adventure Rents: http://www.adventurerents.com/

The river will remain closed until we receive storms in the fall. Any Steelhead in the river are now trapped in luxury.

Jinx McCombs and Paul Nordstrand have a stone jaguar on their land near Point Arena. A Bobcat sauntered up and then froze, looking at the statue.

The Bobcat then slunk carefully past the statue.

Cook's Beach is just north of the town of Gualala. It is a lovely pocket beach and a perfect place to watch the sunset. Diane Grenkow  recently photographed a sunset there.
