Sightings

The inland heat has coaxed the fog in. Paul Kozal has the ability to see beauty and to photograph it so we can see it too. Here's a recent photo of Dune Drift Trail on The Sea Ranch.

It makes me want to walk down that trail...

Thanks to Paul for allowing me to share it with you here. To see much more of Paul's nature photography, here is his website: http://www.paulkozal.com/ Some of Paul's photos are displayed in one of the dining rooms of the newly reopened Gualala Hotel  - yes, the Paul Kozal room!

Great Blue Herons are year round residents of the Mendonoma Coast. They hunt for a variety of food, including fish and small rodents. Rob Diefenbach recently photographed one on the hunt for a tasty rodent.

On June 3rd a magnificent halo appeared around the sun. A friend pointed it out to me when I was in Gualala around noon. Several photographers recorded the event. Here's a photo taken by Shana Becerra.

A halo often is a predictor of rain. Another photo of this phenomenon will appear in the Independent Coast Observer in my Mendonoma Sightings column, which comes out today. It was taken by Paul Brewer and it's quite stunning.

Thanks to Shana for allowing me to share her photo with you here.

The remnants of a hurricane traveled up the Mendonoma Coast. Late in the evening we had thunder and lightning, plus a smattering of rain. Kitty Wolfe captured this scene from her home in Manchester.

A vision of loveliness for you today!

You could hear it before you saw it. Something noisy in the air was headed up the Mendonoma Coast.

I rushed outside with my camera and found this - the Goodyear Blimp.
