Sightings

Rob Cozens was driving Mountain View Road when he came across these beautiful inland irises, Purdy's Iris.

Rob also found clouds of white lilac, Ceanothus incanus. It's also called Coast whitethorn. I'll share photos of that another time.

Thanks to Rob for allowing me to share his photo with you here.

Douglas Irises, also called wild irises, are blooming in abundance this year. Gary Levenson-Palmer photographed this lovely sight.

Wildflowers are beautiful now. Yesterday's rain - we got nearly an inch at our place in Anchor Bay - freshened everything up. Many CA Poppies are blooming too, adding to the fun.

Thanks to Gary for allowing me to share his photos with you here.

This morning, after a nice rainstorm, a few remaining storm clouds were seen. A short rainbow appeared for a few minutes. I watched it but Susan Routledge-Jackson photographed it, with Fish Rocks seemingly the rainbow's end. A lovely photo for you today.

The first Harbor Seal pups have been born at Tidepool Rookery on The Sea Ranch. I watched this blissed-out mom and her nursing pup.

I took this short video of the scene. It's a privilege to be able to see this!

Nancy Padgett photographed this very low tide recently. It was pretty foggy that day! The low tide exposes a possible pathway to Gualala Point Island.

It wouldn't be a good idea to walk over there. An incoming tide could trap you there. And the rocks and islands off our coast are protected as part of the California Coastal National Monument. This particular island is an important seabird nesting site. We wouldn't want the birds disturbed in any way.

To learn more about the Monument, here is a link to the Bureau of Land Management: http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/prog/nlcs/California_Coastal_NM.html
