Ahead of our last storm, Carol Bogovich noticed these unusual clouds in the sky - Kelvin-Helmholtz clouds or billows.

These clouds are indicators of atmospheric instability. Aviators have learned to avoid them because of the turbulence. They look like waves or sails in the sky.

Today the Pacific Ocean has big swells coming in, and abalone divers are warned not to go diving. As tomorrow is the last day of abalone diving, some might feel they should take the risk. They shouldn't!

Though it's quite cold, there is a nice bloom of Boletus edulis along the Mendonoma Coast. Many foragers have been at Salt Point State Park where it is legal to forage as long as you only take five pounds a day. Catherine Miller found some of the first king boletes of the season on November 9th.

Rick and I had our first taste of the year this week, making a porcini omelet for breakfast yesterday. YUM!

David Arora says that, even with the cold weather (36 degrees at our house this morning), we should see more boletes, though not as many as we would get with more normal weather. He says the cold weather will keep them hard and free from bugs. I'll be looking for Queen boletes on our property soon.

Bobcats have been hunted for their beautiful pelts. I'm glad to say that is no longer legal in California.

On November 19th we were treated to an epic sunset.

Sunbeams appear to be reaching skyward and the approaching fog bank to the north added to the event. It truly was breathtaking. I took this photo from our deck in Anchor Bay. Yes, a sunset to be thankful for!
