To see a mature Bald Eagle is always a thrill. We have had several sightings of a mature Bald Eagle this winter, including a presumed mated pair at Jenner. Eddie Mikus was the lucky one to see this beauty.

Here's what Eddie wrote: “I spotted this Bald eagle out my window and he cooperated by staying perched long enough in a cypress tree on TSR Golf Links for me to take several photos. Hope this means I am going to have a lucky 2016!”

May we all be lucky in 2016, and that includes seeing a Bald Eagle!

Rozann and  George Grunig tried to drive from The Sea Ranch to Fort Bragg today, only to find out the Garcia River has flooded Highway One.

Cal Trans District 1 reports there is approximately one foot of water on the highway now. If you are on Facebook, you can find and like the Cal Trans District 1 page to receive updated reports on the Coast's roads. I just did!

As storm after storm slam onto the Mendonoma Coast, the wave action has been amazing. Jon Loveless photographed some dramatic waves off The Sea Ranch. Note the house on the right side of Jon's photo for some scale.

Today we are being hit with a big storm. It's possible the Garcia River will flood Highway One. After four years of subpar rain years, it is exhilarating to experience these storms.

Cece Case recently spotted this odd-looking mushroom, a Fluted Black Elfin Saddle, Helvella lacunosa.

It's said to be edible when cooked, but I've never tried it. I prefer just to admire this ugly duckling of the fungi world wherever it flowers.
