Gail Jackson (no relation!) photographed a lone Cedar Waxwing working on one of two apples still hanging from a tree. It's amazing that these two apples survived all the winter storms and are now providing food for this beautiful bird. Here I think the Waxwing is say, "That's my apple!"

Rick and I just got back from a benefit walk for Coastal Seniors' Meals on Wheels, a most worthy charity. It was at Gualala Point Regional Park and the weather was perfect. The waves were enormous, crashing onto the beach with the form reaching the bluff edges. A great day for a great event! Watching the breakers come in is mesmerizing. The power and the beauty can take your breath away. Allen Vinson photographed this wave over the weekend.

We had a vigorous storm this morning but sunshine broke out in the afternoon. And the ocean is roaring!

Eric Zetterholm recently photographed the mated pair of Bald Eagles mating. Yes! X-rated Sightings for you today.

The eagles were in the dead tree that can be seen from the north end of the Gualala Bluff Trail, or from behind Trinks Restaurant. The mating is quick! Eric later spotted them in the sandbar of Gualala River, facing the Pacific Ocean. Do you see a heart between the two Bald Eagles' beaks and throats? Sweet!

Another lovely day here on the Mendonoma coast. Birdsong fills the air. With spring right around the corner, and wildflowers beginning to appear, it's a great time to be on the coast.

Mike Reinhart found four Tom Turkeys displaying recently. The Toms are hoping to impress the hens nearby.

Just look at their beautiful breeding plumage. There is a LOT of different colors going on!

Fun Fact: Wild turkeys can swim if they have to. They pull their wings in close to their bodies, extend their tail feathers and kick!

Breathtakingly beautiful day here today, with temps in the mid-60s. sigh...

That's what Michael Combs called this sight at Cooks Beach. The storm waves washed away much of the sand on the beach, leaving behind stones piled high with sand "castles."

The storms washed in a LOT of driftwood too.

Now the beach has a chance to recover and build back up its sand. Cooks Beach is a very popular pocket beach at the northern end of Gualala. Here's a link to the Redwood Coast Land Conservancy to learn more about this special place: http://www.rc-lc.org/
