Susan Zerwick photographed this beautiful Monarch Butterfly several weeks ago but no other sightings of them came in. But the past couple of days, I have been seeing Monarchs at our flowering pink abelia bush.

And yesterday, at the Climate Conference in Gualala, I looked out the door of the Community Center and saw several Monarchs. These are the Methuselah generation, the long-lived generation. They live about seven month0.s The Monarchs we are seeing now are the ones to migrate southward.

Monarch Butterfly numbers are way down and we are quite worried about them. The world would be a poorer place with these beauties.

Sunshine abounds on the coast today. Lots of whale spouts have been seen with the Pacific Ocean doing its best impersonation of a lake!

Several coast residents saw these six Great Egrets fly overhead, one at The Sea Ranch and one north of Gualala. Eric Zetterholm photographed them. For some reason, we don't usually see a large group of Great Egrets flying by.

Earlier Eric found them by the Gualala River. In this next photo he shows the larger Great Egrets with a smaller Snowy Egret between them.

Here's a favorite photo of a Great Egret taken by Bob Rutemoeller.  You can see how much of the bird's wings are feathers!

Thanks to Eric and Bob for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

After two small storms (Monday's brought .20 inches and Wednesday's brought .25 inches), we are back to sunny, breezy weather. It was sure nice to get the early rain.

Jackie Sones trained her camera at a spiderweb recently. Look at what her camera revealed!

Who knew there was so much color in spiderwebs?! A whole new world has been revealed.

Thanks to Jackie for allowing me to share her photos with you here. Jackie shares her nature sightings at this link: https://bodegahead.blogspot.com/

Peter Cracknell nailed it when he called these spiderwebs the real World Wide Web.

These intricate spiderwebs were revealed during a drippy, foggy morning. They are most likely made by orb weaver spiders. The more I learn about spiderwebs, the more I appreciate them - and the spiders!

Thanks to Peter for allowing me to share his photos with you here.

We are having a lovely, sunny, breezy day. It's hard to believe we might get rain overnight, but I sure hope so!

Humpbacks have been seen off our portion of the coast, always a treat. John Batchelder photographed this Humpback off the coast of The Sea Ranch. Just look at all those Brown Pelicans flying by.

Here are a few photos of Humpback Whales that John took last year - a tail, a breach and a flipper.

Thanks to John for allowing me to share his photos with you here.

Today it is HOT on the Mendonoma coast! Have I ever mentioned I'm not a fan of  hot weather? Bring back our ocean breezes! Oddly enough, but most welcome, we have rain in our forecast for Monday. Rain would be such a blessing.
