Richard Zweig noticed this young Peregrine Falcon, apparently looking directly at him!

It almost looks like the young falcon posed for Richard. Peregrine Falcons are powerful birds and, boy, can they fly fast. They prey on medium-sized birds. oh, such a beautiful autumn day we are having, with crystal clear skies and a gentle breeze. The Pacific Ocean was crashing this morning!

Craig Tooley wrote, "Hi Jeanne, this is my Pic O Joy for today. Yes, it is a very rarely photographed forest fairy.  🙂 I can tell already that you're smiling! I have other sharper pictures but this one captures the spirit."

This isn't the first time Craig has photographed a Forest Fairy. This one was seen with small mushrooms. What beautiful wings she has!

No smoke, just beautiful blue skies today. It's the last day of Summer as the Autumnal Equinox is tomorrow morning here on the Mendonoma Coast.

Erin McAllister noticed the female Bald Eagle on a snag in the Gualala River.

As Erin watched, the big eagle took flight and she took this video.

What struck me while watching this video is how very big she is! A female Bald Eagle's wingspan is close to seven feet!

We feel fortunate a Bald Eagle pair made the Gualala River area their home and that they successfully raised a chick this year. I will be sharing more photos of the eagle family here soon.

It's a beautiful day on the Mendonoma Coast today, warm with a light breeze.

Deidre Harrison was having a wonderful nature-sighting day.

She wrote, "I was sitting by myself at the Harbor Seal pullout [off The Sea Ranch] when I noticed what I thought was a particularly acrobatic seal. When I looked closer with my binoculars, I saw it was a large River Otter, actively fishing in that area, and three smaller otters, presumably her pups. As I watched, the group went further out to sea and headed south towards Shell Beach.”

That same day Deidre saw a young Bobcat in her driveway. I asked her about the size of the planter box to get a size comparison. She wrote, “The planter is about three feet high, and the little Bobcat looked amused rather than alarmed when my goofy dog started barking at her from inside the house.”

Any day you see a Bobcat is a good day!

For now, the smoke is gone. We have fog over the ocean this afternoon, with blue skies overhead.

The smoke is much less today. We're looking forward to a nice westerly breeze to disperse the smoke.
