Michael Sugarman's trail camera picked up a visit by a healthy-looking Mountain Lion recently. Here is the video: Mountain Lion Video by Michael Sugarman

One of my favorite photos of a Mountain Lion was taken by CeCe Case. A female Mountain Lion was starring through her window in Gualala a few years back. YIKES!!

Thanks to Michael for allowing me to share his video and to Cece for allowing me to reshare her photo with you here.

It's dark and cold with occasional rain showers today!

Any day you see dolphins feels like a gift, but Thanksgiving Day? Perfection. Sara Bogard spotted a small pod off of the Point Arena Lighthouse bluffs. And there was a calf in the pod!

If  you look closely at the smaller dolphin, you will see creases, lines on its body. These are fetal folds, showing this is a newborn, a neonate, Bottlenose Dolphin! How wonderful is that?

Sunny, warm, no wind - just about perfect if we weren't longing for rain!

NEWS FLASH! Scott and Tree Mercer saw the first, the vanguard, of the Gray Whale southward migration yesterday, Wednesday. Yes, it's begun and the show is appearing off a bluff near you!

Autumn is a good time to hopefully see a green flash at sunset. Last week Anne Mary Schaefer photographed one.

Yes, I'm jealous, as I've never managed to photograph a green flash, though I've seen many of them. Congrats to Anne Mary for a nice capture!

Thanks to Anne Mary for allowing me to share her photo with you here. Anne Mary is a professional photographer, specializing in pet photography. Here is the link to her website: https://www.pawpawrazzipetphotography.com/ I can personally attest to her great talent, as she has photographed my husband, Rick, and me with our first two rescue golden retrievers.

Today is a warm, dry day, though there is fog hovering over the ocean. We've had quite a long string of dry weather after the abundance of early rain. It's time to turn the rain spigot on again!

Fly Amanitas, Amanita muscaria, have been popping up on the Mendonoma Coast. We are taking a break from the rains with sunny, very mild weather. These red-capped mushrooms with the white spots seem pretty darn happy. Kurt Fuchs photographed one recently.

As did Cece Case.

And Wayne Smith.

Dan Lewis also joined in the fun.

These mushrooms can be eaten, I'm told by David Arora, if you parboil them twice, throwing out the water between boils. Personally, I'd rather watch them in the forest and in meadows. They are fascinating as they evolve. I had a group growing under a huckleberry bush, but they all got eaten one night! Mushrooms feed a lot of critters.

Thanks to all above who allowed me to share their photos with  you here.

To all who celebrate the holiday today,  Happy Thanksgiving!
