An oddity was found on the beach – a hagfish.

Jeanne Jackson • January 13, 2016

Marie Matheson found this eel-like creature on a beach at The Sea Ranch. It took a little digging to find out it was a hagfish.

A strange find on the beach, a Hagfish by Marie Matheson (Large)

Marie found it was alive and she put it back in the ocean. She commented that it was really slimy. Hagfish are bottom dwellers, so how it came to be on the beach is a mystery.

Thanks to Marie for allowing me to share her photo with you here.
