Carolyn Andre captured a photo of the Pacific Ocean flowing over the sandbar of the Gualala River.

It is beautiful to see, don't you agree? Carolyn also photographed a dramatic sunset between storms.

Thanks to Carolyn for allowing me to share her photos with you here.

As it happens every year in the spring, the Gualala River is closed at the river mouth by a big sandbar. Rick and I went to Gualala Point Regional Park to photograph it.

Once the river is closed, the mouth of the river is called a lagoon. When the river is open it is called an estuary. With the river closed it is a very safe river to kayak.

The river will remain closed until we receive storms in the fall. Any Steelhead in the river are now trapped in luxury.

With calm, dry weather forecast the Pacific Ocean will settle down. But with the several storms that hit late last week the ocean was in full voice. Robert Scarola photographed some big waves recently at Gualala Point Regional Park. The couple in the photo had to run from the big surf.

The couple below is on the sandbar, a dangerous place to be when the Gualala River is running so fast.
