Jim Biller was thrilled to see this special frog - a frog that is federally listed as “threatened” under the Endangered Species Act. Because of that, this frog is protected by law. Meet the California Red-legged Frog.

Jim wrote, “This guy posed for us in the host site at the Gualala Point Campground on Saturday night. I have more photos, different angles, and two witness statements from campers saying they saw me taking pictures of it.” We believe you, Jim! And we're happy to see this special frog.

Thanks to Jim for allowing me to share his photos with you here.

The Pacific Ocean is telling us that our calm, dry weather is coming to an end. The waves were crashing today! We have several days of dry weather, making this weekend a perfect time to head to the Mendonoma coast. Starting next Tuesday, we are expecting the first big storm of the season. Hooray!

Eric Zetterholm photographed the Bald Eagles recently. He found them "checking out" this tall, old-growth Redwood Tree east of Gualala Point Regional Park Campground.

There looks to be a nice flat area on the left for a nest...hint, hint! Eric says he will be watching in the days to come.

Eric also got this magnificent photo of the two, forming a heart. The larger female is on the right.

Shari GoForth-Eby photographed one of the Bald Eagles flying by so we can see the white tail feathers.

You can also see the bones of the eagle's legs. Nice!

Thanks to Eric and Shari for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

It has clouded up this afternoon and we are expecting the first of several storms tonight.

Fringed Corn Lilies are extra special because they are found in Sonoma and Mendocino Counties, and no where else in the world. Roberta Chan found this one blooming by Gualala Point Regional Campground, in the Gualala River floodplain.

We have had two sightings of Bald Eagles.  Randy Burke sent in this sighting from a week ago Sunday. He wrote, “Nathan Becker from Napa captured this Bald Eagle while hiking around the campgrounds of [Gualala Point Regional Park].  Nathan and his friend Xavier are active bird enthusiasts, and thought the photographic capture of the eagle to be a highlight of their day out.”

Nathan’s photo shows an adult. Teresa Denniston spotted a juvenile near her home in Gualala.

We are hoping a mated pair will build a nest here on the Mendonoma Coast. The welcome mat is out!

Thanks to Nathan for allowing me to share his photo with you here.

A big storm is hitting the coast this afternoon. More rain is just what the doctor ordered!
