Drew Fagan noticed this Bobcat lurking in the grasses. The cat with the tufted ears seemed to be listening to something coming.

Drew wrote,

“I grabbed my camera, figuring it must be waiting for some prey. Seconds later, a Doe and her two Fawns came down the hillside. I managed to get two photos of her chasing the Bobcat into the brush alongside the trail."

“They were both so fast, I’m surprised I got anything at all. It seems obvious that the Bobcat was waiting to bring down a Fawn. The Doe actually went into the brush after the cat, then came out and stood guard until she knew her babies were safe. They had, by some amazing signal, already scurried up the hill. Mamma ran up after them.”

Mothers of all species are fierce warriors when it comes to their young.

Thanks to Drew for allowing me to share his photos with you here. To see Drew's wonderful art, here is a link to his website:  http://drewfagan.com/

It's a beautiful, breezy day on the Mendonoma Coast. Visitors are arriving, looking forward to exploring everything the coast has to offer. Seems like the holiday is already here!

Adrian Bennett entitled this photo "Love in the morning." I think you will see why.

Two Fawns with their necks entwined with the mother in the grass behind them. You can see a wave just about to break in the Pacific Ocean. A peaceful scene at Adrian's home on The Sea Ranch. I thank her for allowing me to share it with you here.
