Long-billed Curlews are shorebirds with a very long, curved bill. I think they are quite elegant. We occasionally see non-breeders on the Mendonoma. Craig Tooley photographed a juvenile in flight today - his Pic O Joy. Just look at that beak!

Long-billed Curlews are North American's largest shorebird.

Fog on the coast, sunny just a bit off the coast. Must be August or as some locals call it, Fogust!

Craig Tooley photographed this Semipalmated Plover "taking a walk on the beach."

A rare visitor to the Mendonoma Coast, a Pacific Golden-Plover was spotted by Richard Kuehn.

This bird gets its name from the gold color etched on its wings.

Black Oystercatchers are year round residents of the Mendonoma Coast. They are quite noisy - Jackie Gai dubbed them "chattery" - and fun to watch. Look for them along our rocky shores. Cece Case recently photographed one wading in a tide pool. Oystercatcher wading by Cece Case (Large) You can't miss this shorebird's distinctive red-orange bill! Its legs are yellow as is its eyes. The rest of this bird is pure ebony. Thanks to Cece for allowing me to share her photo with you here.
