It's hard not to watch in wonder as you see a Buck with a big set of antlers. Even John Walls' dog, Dash, was impressed. That's one healthy-looking Buck!

This is the time of year for the rut, the mating season of the Deer here on the coast. As the Does aren't always receptive, there is a lot of chasing involved. It can be a dangerous time to drive, so keep watch.

Here is a photo former coast resident, Sharon Albert, took several years ago of a five-point Buck. Here in the West we just count the prongs on one antler.

Thanks to John and Sharon for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

Tom Landecker and Sharon Albert had a pair of Pacific-slope Flycatchers make a nest in a wreath on their front door. There are a lot of hungry babies waiting to be fed.

I asked Tom if the birds ever bothered the fake berries on the wreath. He replied that they don't touch them.
These birds are rather difficult to spot, as they are pretty drab. I often hear them in the forest.

Big, beautiful King Salmon are being caught off the Mendonoma Coast. Ken Bailey went out recently and brought home the "bacon." Wendy Bailey took the photography with a certain pup named Lucky looking on.

This photo is not very clear but you can still see the beautiful salmon caught by a group of Mendonomans who went out on a fishing charter from Bodega Bay. Paul Batchelder, Sharon Albert and  George Marshall are among this happy group.

It is such great news that salmon are in abundance this year! There is plenty of feed, as the ocean is full of krill right now. That also brings the chance of Humpback Whale sightings and even a Blue Whale or two.

Thanks to Wendy and Paul for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

Sharon Albert was hiking at Gualala Point Regional Park this past week when she saw a big rainbow. It crossed the Gualala River and the town of Gualala and seemed to end on the ridge. Using her Samsung Galaxy lll, she took a panoramic photo of the rainbow. I thank Sharon for allowing me to share her photo with you here.

Happy New Year, all. May rainbows be one of the many things that bring you joy in 2013.

Sharon Albert came across a beautiful five-point Buck, a very healthy-looking one. She wrote, “I disturbed this guy’s meal as I drove by. He was on Timber Ridge, near Annapolis Road. I’ve often seen groups of Bucks in that area, four or five at a time. This one was particularly impressive.”

Yes, come the fall, this magnificent Buck will surely impress the ladies.

Thanks to Sharon for allowing me to share her photo with you here. To see another five-point Buck, here's the link: http://www.mendonomasightings.com/2011/11/04/five-point-buck-photographed-by-drew-fagan/
