Monique Cooper spotted this Bobcat hunting near her home. She wrote, “My husband, Paul, and I spotted this Bobcat at home midday. I read Bobcats are nocturnal, and it seemed odd to see it in broad daylight. We watched him/her hunt for about an hour or so. Although the hunt was unsuccessful, it was very entertaining to watch the stalking and leaping onto whatever was supposed to be a meal.”

Bobcats hunt for rodents in grassy meadows, and as I wrote in the title line, they are often seen in the daylight hours here on the coast.

Thanks to Monique for allowing me to share her photo with you here.

We are having a sunny, breezy day, washed clean from yesterday's rain.

Gray Foxes are year round residents of the Mendonoma coast. It is quite normal here to see them in the daylight hours. Tracy Reaves photographed the beautiful face of a young Gray Fox.

And here she photographed an adult enjoying the sun, perhaps on the lookout for a tasty rodent.

Sunny, breezy, beautiful! I saw Humpback Whales about an half hour before sunset last night. What caught my eye was a big splash quite a ways out in the ocean. Then, as I was scanning the ocean with binoculars, I found a pod of five or six Humpbacks very close in, just passing Fish Rocks (Anchor Bay) and headed north. A wonderful way to end the day.

Jon Loveless caught this Bobcat obviously soaking up some rays.

Peter Cracknell photographed a Bobcat recently. The first shows the Bobcat hunting, probably hunting a tasty gopher.

Bobcats are year round residents of the Mendonoma Coast. It is always a treat to see one - unless you have chickens!

It is said Bobcats are nocturnal but they are often seen in the daylight here on the Coast. Siegfried Matull recently photographed a Bobcat on the hunt, with one paw up in the air. Looks like the cat with the tufted ears and bobbed tail has found a tasty rodent.

And the Bobcat was successful, nabbing a Vole.

Here is one of my favorite Bobcat photos, also taken by Siegfried.
