Carolyn Case wrote, "[Two weeks ago], I stopped by Cooks Beach. There were no other visitors, and as I walked towards the water’s edge at the north end, I suddenly heard a barking behind me and saw a large Sea Lion heading toward the water. I think we were both surprised."

"It was an exciting sighting but I was sorry to have disturbed it; it must have been resting among the rocks as I had walked right by without noticing it.” Several others had seen this male California Sea Lion and wondered if he was injured. But CC’s photos show what appears to be a healthy Sea Lion. There is an active colony of male Sea Lions living on Fish Rocks off Anchor Bay.

It's chilly today - the wind is cold. Lots of clouds drifting by with intermittent sunshine...and achingly beautiful!

Eric Duff's beautiful photo of the sunset on Oct 21 was taken at Cooks Beach. Isn't it lovely?

Cooks Beach is brought to us by the Redwood Coast Land Conservancy. It's a sweet pocket beach. You can print out a map which shows Cooks Beach and other properties managed by RCLC at their website: https://www.rclc.org/property-map/

Thanks to Eric for allowing me to share his photo with you here.

It's cooler today and rain is predicted overnight. As I write this mid-afternoon, the sun is shining with just a few clouds passing by. The surf is telling the story, though. Huge swells are hitting the coastline, sending white water up in the air. The ocean is really roaring today!

Pacific Rhododendrons, also called California Rhododendrons, Rhododendron macrophyllum, often begin blooming in May. Their delicate blooms extend into the first part of June, and you can see them now, along with the native Azaleas. Laura Baker was at Mill Bend overlooking the Gualala River when she spotted this beautiful sight.

Mill Bend is the latest acquisition by our fabulous land conservancy, the Redwood Coast Land Conservancy. You can read more about Mill Bend and RCLC's other public access spots at this link: https://www.rclc.org/

Thanks to Laura for allowing me to share her photo with you here.

It's warm here today with very little wind. Clouds are beginning to appear as changes seem to be afoot in the weather department. Rain is predicted for the weekend, and wouldn't that be a blessing!

Eric Duff was at Cooks Beach when he photographed this beautiful sunset.

Cooks Beach is just north of the town of Gualala. You can learn more about this wonderful pocket beach at the Redwood Coast Land Conservancy's website at this link: https://www.rclc.org/what-we-do/cooks-beach/ I'm such a fan of RCLC.

Deborah Vanderwoude noticed this unusual cloud recently and said she thought it looked like a bird, which I can see. I also thought it looked like an angel if you looked at it another way.

Thanks to Eric and Deborah for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

We are having a spectacular warm day on the Mendonoma Coast today.

Here's a photo Rozann Grunig took of Rick and me kayaking on the Gualala River some years ago. Rozann, you could have a winner here!

Thanks to Rozann for allowing me to share her photo with you here.

Foggy this morning, clear and warm this afternoon, a lovely late summer day.
