Rainbows over the Pacific Ocean, over meadows, and even over Highway One, are a treat from Mother Nature. Many of us believe we are getting a hello from a loved one who has crossed over. I always try to photograph the ones I see from our place in Anchor Bay. Here's a recent one.

This photo of Peggy Berryhill's in on page one of the Independent Coast Observer this week. She titled it, "We're off to see the wizard!"

And here are two more rainbow photos taken by Peggy, including a double rainbow.

Perry Hoffman took this lovely rainbow photo after a recent storm

And Tom White took this spectacular photo of a rainbow at dawn on the first day of winter.

Each one is just glorious! Thanks to Peggy, Perry and Tom for allowing me to share their photos with you here. I hope you can take some of this beauty with you into the New Year!

Happy New Year. May there be peace.

Over the past weekend, we had many, many showers followed by brilliant sunshine. That's a great recipe for rainbows. John Wall photographed this one through a window in his home on The Sea Ranch.

Then it started really pouring and John photographed the rainbow through a sleeting rain.

Today we have nothing but pure sunshine and a chance to dry out a bit.

Thanks to John for allowing me to share his photos with you here.

A wild and wet storm arrived yesterday [we got over two inches of rain], and the unsettled weather behind it has brought downpours, a little hail, mixed with brilliant sunshine today. A wait-five-minutes kind of day!

Craig Tooley photographed a couple of rainbows, one showing the big surf we are having.

After today's showers, the weather is suppose to be sunny and warmer through the weekend. Time for a trip to the Mendonoma coast? It should be beautiful.

Thanks to Craig for allowing me to share his photos with you here. To see much more of Craig's nature photography, here is his website: www.ruffimage.com

Before the storm arrived, there were rainbows this morning. Now that's a nice way to start the day!

Gary Levenson-Palmer recently photographed several beautiful rainbows. The first shows a rare fire rainbow, a horizontal rainbow.

Rainbow days are one of the privileges of being on the Mendonoma Coast.

Last week a storm system gave us rainbows just before sunset, rather an unusual occurrence. Robert Scarola photographed the event in Gualala.

The first photo shows the rainbow beginning.

And the rainbow grows.

This was the sunset to the west.

The rainbow then arched across the sky.

And finally the right side of the rainbow formed a double.

Here's what Robert had to say about this event: "It was still lightly raining and misting on the hills behind our house, and as I watched a rainbow began to form next to a large tree opposite our back deck. It then grew, formed a double, arched at the top, started down to the left, and completed into a full arch. It was so close I could almost touch it, and I did not have a lens that was wide angle enough to capture the whole incredible sight. So I took this series with the lens I have. (I am now in the market for a wide angle lens!). Maybe people can get a feel for how this incredible magical event formed in front of my eyes as I watched. It was like Buddha decided to have some fun and do a sand painting in the sky for all of us still hanging out down here. As it faded away, I went to the other side of the house and took the photo of the sunset clouds to the west. Wow, is about all I can say."

Thanks to Robert for his sighting and for allowing me to share his lovely photos with you here.
