Justine Rosenthal wrote, “Janine [Johnson] saw this Bobcat this afternoon. It was in our yard two times today, sleeping and hunting." This Bobcat looks pretty content!

Fun Fact: the markings on a Bobcat’s fur are unique to each Bobcat, just like our fingerprints.

There are lots of clouds today, Friday. The sunset could be amazing! Dry weather is predicted for the weekend. New rainfall totals at Rick's and my place - 30.35 inches. More rain coming in next week.

Last Saturday we received some blessed rain, a quarter of an inch. Of course it came during the nature walk at the Discover the Lands even on the Point Arena-Stornetta Lands.  Justine Rosenthal and Janine Johnson took the walk from Point Arena City Hall to the Mendocino College Field Station. It was near the Field Station in a group of Bishop Pines when they found this beauty, one of the choice edible mushroom here on the coast - a Boletus edulis, King Bolete. That yellow plate is a dinner plate!

It's what's for dinner!

No more mushrooms until we receive some rain. It's too dry now. We are waiting for our power to be turned off in advance of the high wrong-way winds forecast for tonight. I may not be able to post for a while. I can tell you that today is absolutely lovely here. May that continue hold true.

Boletus edulis, also called King Boletes, Porcini or Cep, have responded to a good rain we received in April. They decided to pop up in all their glory. Justine Rosenthal found two big ones. They are deliciously edible.

Justine was celebrating World Tai Chi day when she found this beauty. Janine Johnson photographed this happy mushroom forager.

If you are on the Coast, check your spots - more were found earlier this week. They normally fruit in the fall, after the first rains, usually in November and December. With climate change who knows what the new normal will be.
