African animals in Point Arena? You bet! Here's what Judy Mello of the B Bryan Preserve says about their mission: "We are a private preserve actively committed to the breeding and preservation of African hoof Stock. Our various species of zebra, giraffe, and antelope range from critically endangered to endangered, and range in large, open fields on our property in Point Arena, California."

Here is Willie, as cute as he can be. Willie is a newborn Hartmann's Mountain Zebra, photo take by Judy.

Harm Wilkinson was driving by the preserve when he saw this scene - two newborn Sable Antelopes among the adults.

One of the young ones is partially obscured in Harm’s photo. I queried Judy Mello and she wrote, “Those are two girls, Liz and Eva. Also, now Carl has joined them.”

The Preserve has regular visiting hours, and several overnight accomodations. You can learn more at their website: https://www.bbryanpreserve.com/

Thanks to Judy and Harm for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

Meet Daphne, a newborn Hartmann's Mountain Zebra. She was born July 2 at the B. Bryan Preserve. Daphne looks like she is celebrating life!

And here's the little one with her mother, Debbie.

These zebras are endangered. According to Judy Mello, less than 6000 of them remain. Their primary habitat is the mountains of Namibia. Daphne can expect to live twenty years at her safe home in Point Arena.

Judy Mello wrote, “This is a Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra. This species of zebra is on the endangered species list, with less than 6,000 left in the world. She/he already has its dewlap under its neck and the classic zipper pattern on its tail.” It looks like Mom is keeping a close eye on her little one.

Several more births are expected this summer at the preserve and several more animals will be joining the herd from San Diego Safari Park in June.

A visit to B. Bryan Preserve in Point Arena would be a unique thing to do. By reservation you can be there when the animals are being fed. They also have several guest cottages for rent. It's beautiful there - like you've entered another world. To learn more about the preserve, here's the link: http://www.bbryanpreserve.com/
