Glenn and Kalynn Funk noticed this cute little owl in an owl nesting box they put up in their Anchor Bay property some years ago. Finally, they have attracted a Western Screech-Owl. Craig Tooley went over and captured a photo of the little owl.

We hope this owl will attract a mate and nest in the Funk's box. What fun that would be!

This owl has a bird-like call, not screech-like at all. To hear it, here is a link to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Western_Screech-Owl/sounds

A full moon in August is sometimes called a Sturgeon Moon. It was named so by some Native Peoples because sturgeon were most easily caught in August.

Glenn Funk wrote, "At the monthly Moon Tour at the Point Arena Lighthouse, this hazy Sturgeon Moon tried valiantly to outshine the tower’s floodlight and, depending on the shifting fog layer, may have succeeded…at times.”

This is the end of the mating season of our local Black-tailed Deer. Big Bucks migrate onto the Coast and fight over which Does will be in their harem. Glenn Funk photographed this handsome Buck in Anchor Bay - perhaps he needed a rest after chasing all his Does.

This photo was taken in late August and this kit has undoubtedly grown since then.
