Normally we have warm weather in October, but this year is different. A massive fog bank has been evident most recent days, sometimes extending up over the ridge. Phil Lewenthal photographed a rare fogbow, also called a white rainbow or mistbow. Phil took this photo and told me the fogbow then disappeared.

Carolyn Andre photographed the fog covering the Pacific Ocean along Highway One. Doesn't it look like whipped cream?

With the fog comes high humidity...and low fire danger, something for which we are grateful.

Thanks to Phil and Carolyn for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

Yep, it's foggy today, temps in the low 60's. I can see that it is sunny this afternoon on the ridge. Micro climates!

Bill Oxford noticed a low fog approaching the part of The Sea Ranch where he lives. The sunbeams mixed with fog created these lovely photos.

Bill is a professional photographer and I always appreciate it when he shares his talent with Mendonoma Sightings. You can see much more of his photography at this link: https://www.billoxford.com/

Today the dawn brought...rain! Not a lot, but it's definitely rain, about a tenth of an inch.

Sara Bogard noticed this Osprey a few weeks ago at the Point Arena Lighthouse bluffs. It was a foggy day and the fog framed this Osprey beautifully.

Sara also got two photos of the Osprey in flight.

Most Ospreys are migrating southward now, though it isn't unheard of to have an Osprey overwinter on the Mendonoma Coast.

Thanks to Sara for allowing me to share her photos with you here.

Rain and lots of it! Wind too! We lost power but got it back this afternoon.

Peggy Berryhill was traveling along the coast when she saw this beautiful sight at Elk - the iconic, much photographed sea stacks.

And out over the Pacific Ocean, sunbeams pierced the fog.

We are more likely to see sun rays, also called God's rays, from storm clouds but no such luck. Storms are staying way to our north bringing foggy right along the coast and mild sunny weather elsewhere. If you are suffering from the intense cold in many parts of the country, the Mendonoma coast could be the perfect antidote!

Thanks to Peggy for allowing me to share her photos with you here.

Marilyn Green was prepared with a piece of paper and a penny, as perspective is important. Her mission was to find the tiniest shells and photograph them.

They are quiet beautiful, aren't they? Marilyn didn't keep them; she returned them to the beach, perhaps to be discovered by a child.

Thanks to Marilyn for allowing me to share her photo with you here.

Once again the fog has draped itself over the Mendonoma coast. It is, of course, sunny when you head eastward a bit, but for many of us fog is what we have woken up to today. Yesterday, the sun came out on the immediate coast around noon. With the car show happening at the Gualala Arts Center, I was happy for them that the fog cleared. LOTS of vintage cars in town and LOTS of car fans too.
