Bill Brown was at Cooks Beach early one morning during a low tide.  How beautiful to see the offshore rocks reflected in the ocean.

Bill also saw many healthy Sea Stars, Ochre Stars, at Cooks Beach.

Cooks Beach is a lovely pocket beach, perfect for forgetting about a certain virus, or anything else that might be bothering you!

RCLC is our local land conservancy. Along with Cooks Beach, they have brought us the Gualala Bluff Trail and Hearn Gulch. To great excitement, they are also bringing us Mill Bend, which includes the mouth and part of the stem of the Gualala River. RCLC continues to fund raise for this once-in-a lifetime acquisition. We had a very foggy morning, and it continues to be socked in right along the coastline. The sun is shining a little away from the bluffs, however. It's a mild summer day.

Visitors from around the world visit the Point Arena Lighthouse. It's one of the jewels of the Coast. Recently Rick and I revisited the Lighthouse and visitor center. Oh boy, did we have a beautiful day for our visit.

In the visitor center/museum you can learn about the history of the Lighthouse and the magnificent Fresnel lens. Here Bill Brown, aka Lighthouse Willie, shows us the lens that used to be at the top of the Lighthouse.

The display gives more information on the custom lens. Every Lighthouse had a different light so captains could tell which Lighthouse they were passing.

 The stairs up to the top of the lighthouse are steep and winding but there are several platforms to catch your breath.

And you will need your breath for the views!  Below Ron LeValley photographed the crater known as Devil's Punch Bowl.

Lighthouse Willie, aka Bill Brown, works at the Point Arena Lighthouse. He is privileged to see a great deal of wildlife. A climb to the top of the lighthouse affords wonderful views and should be on your list of things to do when you are on the Mendonoma Coast.

During the migration northward of juvenile Brown Pelicans, one landed in front of the Lighthouse and rested for a while before taking off.

Here's hoping this young Brown Pelican found plenty of fish on its journey north and that we will see it pass by on its way southward.
