Allen Vinson noticed this early morning sight, sunbeams streaming through the forest.

Allen also photographed one of several beautiful sunsets we had over the past weekend. This is from Friday night, Jan. 15, 2021

Beauty is everywhere!

Another lovely spring-like day, but there is rain coming in late this weekend, I hope! In the meantime, larger numbers of Gray Whales are passing by the Mendonoma Coast, headed southward. You can read more about Scott and Tree Mercer's sightings of the migration on their Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/Mendonoma-Whale-and-Seal-Study-1421926098039236

We had a vigorous storm overnight. Our rain gauge showed 1.39 inches. Allen Vinson went to Stengel Beach at The Sea Ranch today to see if the waterfall was going. It was!

This means our seasonal creeks have come to life after the dry months of summer and fall. There are many waterfalls to discover now, a fun adventure.

The sun has appeared this afternoon, but it's chilly out and showers are still possible. It's a fun time to be on the Mendonoma Coast.

I didn't get a photo of it, but there was a emerald green flash at sunset last night, and it was particularly meaningful to me. I thought I'd share several photos of the green flash sent in to me over the years.

Jim Grant captured a double green flash, an amazing photo. Green flashes are photographable mirages.

This one was taken by Allen Vinson. Allen almost specializes in green flashes.

Here's Allen with a green flash cocktail. Nice!

Thanks to Jim and Allen for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

Sunny, mild, clear weather today.

Allen Vinson photographed an Osprey with its catch of the day, a fish! The Osprey looks very intent, don't  you agree?

Steve Woolson photographed an Osprey flying near Salal Creek on another sunny day. You can tell it was windy by the white caps on the ocean.

Ospreys usually stay on the Mendonoma Coast until the first of autumn. Then they leave, migrating far to our south. One or two have been known to stay here and overwinter, rather than migrate. We'll have to see if that happens this year.

Thanks to Allen and Steve for allowing me to share their photos with  you here.

Foggy coast-side, sunny when you move a bit inland, and quite mild. No smoke smell, but the sunlight has a red tinge to it, so some smoke particles are here.

John Harmon was at Sea Pine Beach at low tide on The Sea Ranch when he saw all these healthy Stars. They look to be feeding on a bed of Mussels.

These are Ochre Stars and they also eat clams and oysters. I do know one creature that eats Sea Stars and that is a Western Gull. Here's a photo of this gull taken by Allen Vinson. The food chain in action!

Thanks to John for allowing me to share his photo with you here.

A heat wave has enveloped the western part of the United States. If you travel inland from the coast just a bit, you hit very high temps. Here on the Mendonoma Coast, there is no fog, just a gentle breeze and warm temps today.
